Description
The Floyd County Sheriff's Office is looking for a Sergeant.
The purpose of this classification is to provide first line supervision of personnel assigned to the jail , to maintain law and order, to serve legal processes of courts, to provide courtroom services, to assist with training, and to protect life and property.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Applicants must have a minimum of three (3) consecutive years of service in law enforcement. Candidates must be in good standing with both the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Council and the Floyd County Merit System. Candidates must possess and maintain a valid and active law enforcement certification, and driver's license.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff.
- Maintains law and order, safety, and security of the general public, facility staff, and county inmates; enforces all local and State codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations in order to protect life and property.
- Prepares work schedules, assigns officers to daily tasks, and monitors daily activities and performance of duties; conducts roll call, briefing, and inspection of officers’ appearance and equipment.
- Instructs and trains new personnel on proper protocol and procedures of the division/department; assists supervisors in meeting department goals and in complying with directives and standard rules and regulations.
- Reviews, edits, and approves reports written and documents processed by deputies and subordinates to ensure accuracy.
- Documents shift activities; collects and organizes statistical data detailing assigned watch.
- Attends hearings and provides testimony in judicial proceedings.
- Assists with budget preparation; monitors unit expenditures for fiscal compliance.
