Floyd County is looking for a Master Mechanic, Corrections.
JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of this classification is to perform supervisory and skilled mechanical work in the repair, maintenance, and inspection of automotive and heavy equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of County vehicles and machinery.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

High School diploma or equivalent, and two (2) years of experience in automotive/mechanical engine repair/maintenance or a related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid commercial driver's license. Must possess and maintain a Basic Correctional Officer Certification (BCOT) certification within one (1) year of hire.

- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, including assigning work, resolving employee issues, conducting performance appraisals, and providing training and instruction.
- Plans, organizes, and prioritizes shop workload by reviewing work orders, scheduling projects, assigning tasks, and monitoring work in progress through completion.
- Oversees and performs advanced mechanical repair, overhaul, and preventive maintenance on vehicles, engines, and heavy equipment.
- Diagnoses complex mechanical and electrical failures, determining root causes, extent of damage, and appropriate repair solutions.
- Inspects, tests, and verifies machinery, equipment, and emergency systems to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation.
- Maintains and manages shop tools, equipment, and inventory, including procuring supplies, requesting materials, and ensuring proper equipment functionality.
- Enforces safety and security standards by monitoring work conditions, promoting safe practices, and supervising crew activities (including inmate labor, where applicable).
- Maintains accurate service, warranty, and fuel records, and communicates effectively with staff, departments, and the public to provide information and support.
