Description
Floyd County is looking for an Equipment Operator II.
JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of this classification is to operate heavy equipment and perform manual labor in support of County construction, maintenance, and operational activities.

- Operates a variety of heavy equipment and vehicles, including dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, motor graders, rollers, and mowers, to perform construction, maintenance, and repair of County roads and related systems.
- Performs manual work tasks such as grading roads, patching pavement, installing pipes, building and finishing concrete forms, fabricating and installing signs, clearing ditches, mowing, and moving materials.
- Conducts pre- and post-trip inspections and performs daily preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment; reports problems and completes required documentation.
- Adheres to safety procedures, monitors work environment, and uses protective equipment; directs traffic and sets up signage or cones to ensure crew and public safety.
- Prepares, reviews, processes, and maintains reports, work orders, logs, and other documentation related to work activities.
- Communicates and coordinates with supervisors, coworkers, other departments, and the public to exchange information, address issues, and ensure efficient workflow.
- Obtains, transports, loads, and unloads equipment, tools, and materials as needed; may assist in directing individuals assigned to work areas.
- High school diploma or equivalent, and
- One (1) year of experience in equipment operation; or
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must possess and maintain a valid commercial driver’s license.
