We are looking for an Animal Control Officer I!
The purpose of this classification is to enforce state and local animal control laws to ensure public safety and animal welfare. Duties include responding to animal-related incidents, handling and transporting animals, and conducting investigations. The role also involves supervising offenders assigned to assist with animal control operations.

Responsibilities
- Educates and informs the public on state and local animal control laws and ordinances; takes appropriate enforcement actions for violations and advises pet owners of their legal responsibilities.
- Transports offenders to and from correctional facilities; enforces work detail rules and regulations; ensures the safety, security, and discipline of offenders during transport and while on duty.
- Supervises and monitors offender activities continuously while outside the detention facility; conducts regular headcounts and evaluates offender work performance.
- Opens and secures the animal control facility, including managing the alarm system and locking gates as needed.
- Responds to citizen reports involving animal-related concerns such as suspected abuse, bites, stray or nuisance animals, dangerous wildlife, and injured or deceased animals.
- Safely lifts and loads animals into the animal control vehicle for transport.
- Enforces all relevant animal control laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations; takes corrective action as necessary and issues warnings or citations for violations.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Candidates may qualify with any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must either currently hold, or obtain within one (1) year of appointment, P.O.S.T. Basic Correctional Officer Training certification.
