We are looking for a Sergeant!
The purpose of this classification is to provide first line supervision of officers and to protect life and property, respond to the needs of the general public, deter criminal activity within the community, enforce all local, state, and federal statues, ordinances, laws and regulations, and perform investigations, special details and specific assignments.

Responsibilities
- Supervises and manages assigned personnel, addressing employee concerns, resolving issues, assigning tasks, providing guidance and disciplinary actions, and completing performance evaluations.
- Assigns and oversees investigations, patrols, special operations, and other shift responsibilities; organizes and coordinates ongoing training; modifies schedules and staffing levels as needed; approves or requests overtime to maintain sufficient operational coverage.
- Oversees daily operations of the unit, providing support to officers in complex cases or situations; communicates essential information and special directives received during the shift.
- Sets performance goals for staff, provides instruction on departmental procedures and standards, and ensures compliance with policies, uniform regulations, and other operational protocols through regular inspections.
- Enforces municipal, state, and federal laws and ordinances, including traffic and criminal statutes, to safeguard lives and property, prevent criminal activity, and maintain public order.
- Performs a wide range of field duties, including responding to service calls, supporting fellow officers, conducting accident and crime investigations, interviewing witnesses and victims, executing searches, apprehending suspects, making arrests, and handling prisoner transport and processing.
- Applicants must have a minimum of three (3) consecutive years of service in law enforcement.
- Candidates must be in good standing with both the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Council and the Floyd County Merit System.
