Description
We are looking for an Electrician, Corrections!

The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled work functions associated with installing, repairing, and maintaining County electrical systems. 

Essential Functions:
  • Supervises a work crew of offenders assigned to electrical work detail; monitors offender activities to ensure security; instructs offenders on proper work techniques; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work.
  • Installs, repairs, replaces, and/or maintains a variety of electrical fixtures, systems, equipment, and related components.
  • Troubleshoots potential electrical/power problems; responds to requests for service; replaces batteries.
  • Installs control and distribution apparatus (such as switches, relays, circuit-breaker panels, transformers, circuit boards, etc.), fastening in place with screws or bolts.
  • Performs electrical wiring tasks; measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit; pulls wiring through conduit; splices wires; connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
  • Connects power cables to equipment; installs grounding leads.
  • Tests continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components.
  • Observes operation of installed equipment or systems to detect hazards and identify need for adjustment or replacement.
  • Establishes power for special events and activities (such as stage show lighting/sound systems, television broadcast vehicles and equipment, etc.).
  • Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep tools and equipment in good working condition; reports faulty equipment for repair.
  • Maintains inventory of departmental equipment, tools and supplies; initiates requests for new or replacement materials.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, and architectural drawings.
  • Provides cost estimates for electrical work, materials and supplies associated with new construction, maintenance and repair projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and
  • Two (2) years of experience in electrical maintenance or a related field;
  • or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess and maintain valid Correctional Officer Certification within twelve (12) months of hire.
