Description
We are looking for a Equipment Operator IV, Corrections.
The purpose of this classification is to supervise work crews, operate heavy equipment, and perform manual work associated with construction, repair, and maintenance of County Road systems, solid waste operations, and landfill management, as assigned.
Essential Functions:
High School Diploma or equivalent, and two (2) years of experience in heavy equipment operation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Drivers License and be able to obtain and maintain, a valid Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification for Correctional Officers within twelve (12) months of hire.

Essential Functions:
- Operates various heavy equipment including trucks, loaders, graders, dozers, compactors, and related machinery safely and efficiently in road construction, maintenance, and solid waste operations.
- Performs manual work functions such as grading, paving, pipe installation, debris removal, mowing, tree trimming, signage installation, and material handling to ensure safe, functional, and well-maintained work sites.
- Supervises work crews, including inmate crews or other assigned personnel, providing guidance, training, and direction to ensure completion of tasks according to standards and safety protocols.
- Conducts pre- and post-operation inspections, reports issues, performs routine preventive maintenance, and completes required documentation for vehicles and equipment.
- Monitors worksite safety, places traffic signage, cones, and barriers, and ensures compliance with safety procedures for the protection of crew members, the public, and property.
- Prepares, reviews, and maintains work orders, logs, reports, accident reports, and other documentation to ensure accurate operational records.
- Communicates effectively with supervisors, co-workers, and the public to coordinate work activities, report status, and resolve operational or safety issues.
- Maintains and transports equipment, tools, and materials required for projects, ensuring proper use, storage, and availability.
