Description
We are looking for Correctional Officer, Detail!
The purpose of this classification is to perform security and manual work functions associated with overseeing the safety and security of offender(s) assigned to work detail.
Essential Functions:
High school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in road construction/maintenance, equipment operation or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must obtain within one (1) year of hire and maintain a valid Georgia Correctional Officer Peace Officer’s Standards and Training certification.
The purpose of this classification is to perform security and manual work functions associated with overseeing the safety and security of offender(s) assigned to work detail.
Essential Functions:
- Supervises, directs, and guards offender(s) on assigned work details; maintains discipline, enforces facility rules, conducts headcounts, and searches inmates, vehicles, and grounds for contraband.
- Oversees offender(s) work crews; assigns duties, instructs on proper techniques, monitors progress, and inspects completed work.
- Ensures safety and security of work sites by enforcing safety procedures, monitoring equipment use, directing traffic, and placing appropriate signage and barriers.
- Responds to inmate needs and emergencies by distributing meals and supplies, providing first aid/CPR, and coordinating medical assistance as required.
- Operates and transports offender(s) using vehicles and heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner under varying conditions.
- Performs and supervises manual labor related to construction and maintenance, including paving, mowing, debris removal, and basic fabrication tasks.
- Conducts routine inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment; reports defects and maintains required logs and documentation.
- Communicates effectively with supervisors, staff, and other agencies via radio or phone; prepares reports and participates in training to remain compliant with policies and regulations.
