Description
We are looking for a Prison Sergeant!
The purpose of this classification is to supervise and direct officers as assigned and to protect life and property, enforce laws, maintain order, prevent crime, and to perform investigations, special details, and specific assignments within as assigned.
Essential Functions:
High School diploma or equivalent, and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in corrections/ law enforcement required or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid driver’s license, Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT) certification, and a basic First-Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Essential Functions:
- Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff; directing work; counseling; disciplining; and completing employee performance appraisals.
- Enforces all detention facility rules and regulations; maintains offender discipline; maintains a secure and peaceful environment in the Correctional Institution.
- Supervises/monitors operations and activities of assigned shift; plans staff work assignments; conducts uniform inspection and roll call; trains new officers assigned to Correctional Institution.
- Plans/approves offender work duty assignments and accounts for offender movement in/out of facility.
- Monitors security of facility; manages key control for house control for the housing floor; inspects doors, fences, and other areas to assure facility security; monitors alarms; operates security doors and gates via master control panel.
- Directs and participates in searching of offenders, visitors, cells, building, and grounds to locate and remove contraband or weapons.
- Supervises and assists with processing incoming and outgoing prisoners.
