Description
We are looking for Water Maintenance Worker I!

The purpose of this classification is to performed outdoors in all-weather situations by intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping, climbing, and frequently lifting light and heavy objects.  The work involves the use of hand and power tools that require high levels of physical and manual dexterity as well as the ability to distinguish between shades of color.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs manual work functions associated with water system construction, maintenance and repair; repairs pipeline breaks and leaks; conducts water taps; repairs and services fire hydrants; pours concrete; installs pipe; installs water meters; reads meters; digs holes or trenches; shovels materials; lifts and moves heavy materials; cuts grass.
  • Transports, loads and unloads various equipment and materials used in assigned projects.
  • Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in good working condition; inspects equipment; checks fluid levels; replaces fluids; greases equipment; washes and cleans equipment; cleans work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
  • Adheres to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; flags and directs traffic and places markers, signs and cones around project/work site to ensure safety of crew and the traveling public; wears protective gear.
  • Prepares and/or receives various forms, reports, work orders or other documents; completes, processes and/or forwards as appropriate.
  • Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information; takes and relays messages; responds to requests for service.
  • Responds to routine requests for information from employees, officials, the general public or other individuals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
