Description
We are looking for Water Maintenance Worker I!

This classification aims to operate equipment and perform manual work functions associated with the construction, repair, and maintenance of the County Water System.

Responsibilities
  • Operates equipment, machinery, and tools used in water system construction, maintenance, and repair—including but not limited to dump trucks, trailers, backhoes, compactors, jackhammers, tapping machines, and pipe cutters.
  • Transports, loads, and unloads materials, supplies, tools, and equipment to and from job sites using appropriate vehicles and lifting techniques.
  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled manual labor in the installation, maintenance, inspection, and repair of water distribution systems, including water mains, valves, hydrants, meters, and service lines.
  • Assists in locating, identifying, and marking underground utilities before excavation; follows safe digging practices to prevent damage to infrastructure.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance and minor repairs on tools, equipment, and vehicles; reports major service needs to supervisors.
  • Performs routine flushing, leak detection, and valve exercising to maintain water quality and system functionality.
  • Responds to water-related emergencies and service requests, including main breaks, customer complaints, and low pressure issues, occasionally outside of normal work hours.
  • Completes and processes documentation, such as work orders, service reports, maintenance logs, and equipment checklists.
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures and wears appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while working in potentially hazardous conditions such as confined spaces, trenches, or areas with traffic..
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Six (6) months experience in equipment operation, construction/maintenance work, or a related field.
  • Candidates may qualify with any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Must possess or obtain a driver's license within thirty (30) days and a Commercial Driver's License within one (1) year.
